This publication is the second edition of Oromo handbook designed to teach the Oromo language to those who can speak the language but are unable to read, and for those whose children were born outside their homeland and are living in foreign land they now call home and for those who are interested in learning one of the major languages of Africa. The Oromo language is spoken by close to 40 million people in Ethiopia, and the second largest languages in Africa. It is spoken by a significant number of people living in the Northern part of Kenya as well.
This book is a testimony to the resistance of the Oromo language and how it survived over a century of Abyssinian onslaught. By reading this handbook one can understand the origin, the present, and the future state of the Oromo people and their culture. This work is distinguished because it brings out the Oromo oral tradition. It is also manifestation of the unique Oromo traditional ability to integrate numbers and their significance in everyday life.
