Essays. Poetics. Translated from the French by Gilbert Alter-Gilbert. MANIFESTOS MANIFEST contains Vicente Huidobro's autobiographical reassessments of his writing, and was first published in French in 1925, the year he returned to his native Chile to become the editor of a newspaper, and later to run for president. Friend of Guillaume Apollinaire, Pierre Reverdy, Juan Larrea and Jorge Luis Borges, Huidobro was himself one of the great poets of the 20th century. His manifestos, which crystallized his poetics of Creationism, are found here including Futurism and Machinism, Manifesto Mayhaps, The Poetry of Madmen, Tourist Advisory, and The Seven Oaths of the Poet, as well as Manifestos Manifest and Creationism.
