Jim's Journey tells the story of carpenter Jim Allen and those events in his life that prepared him to endure and survive 1,354 days of imprisonment after his capture by the Imperial Japanese Navy in December 1941. Allen became one of the many "guests" of Emperor Hirohito on 23 December 1941, after helping the Battery E Marines of the Wake Island garrison hold off the Japanese Navy for sixteen tense and embattled days. Held in Japanese POW camps in China, Korea, and Japan, he survived to see the brutal war and his personal nightmare finally end, only to come home one of the many forgotten civilian heroes suffering from a variety of hidden diseases. It would be a long thirty-seven years before the United States government would officially recognize Jim Allen and other eligible civilian POWs for their monumental efforts in the defense of Wake Island. Jim's Journey is a story of an ordinary American doing extraordinary things in defense of his country.
