Jesus wants me for a sunbeam Book

Warning spoilers and Christian opinion: This is a novella that asks the eternal question "why do bad things happen to good people" and the answer it gives is really, in my opinion, left wanting. It is no answer. The rejection of the church and Christianity based on the reply given by a fictitious pastor is ludicrous. It feels like a secular answer, or motherhood statement from an atheist, put into the mouth of a fictional minister.

It makes me wonder if the author actually sought out a real minister to seek an answer - to which he should have been told that it is a result of the Fall in Genesis and the fact that the world we live in is fallen and even good people are infected by the badness that seeps into everything (and good people, particularly Christians, more so, for the Devil himself actively works to steal people away from God). But then again, if the answer Goldsworthy gives in the novella (that you have to rely on faith) is one he himself received, I am sorry that he spoke to a minister who really had no understanding of the Scriptures he should be teaching.

I nearly shed a tear at the end of this novella, not because I was sad that the father and daughter were dying, but that the father was spinning the biggest lie - that they would be together in death. A rejection of God and Jesus would result in them not being together and his ultimate suicide was really for nothing. Their complete misunderstanding that if they had been Christians they would not be sending their daughter into death alone but she would be welcomed into the arms of a loving God.

I can't believe this has been touted as a classic - then again, I can, because Australia is no longer the Christian country it was and this novella embraces the secular humanism that invades every aspect of life. I give it no stars because I hated it. Why did I read it? I had to for a course I am doing.
