Japanese Castles in Korea 1592-98
Not bad, but not particularly insightful,
and partly made obsolete by events and time since publication
Some of the author's assertions are outlandish - at one point he makes the bizarre statement that people have just as much ardor for the Queen of the Commonwealth as North Koreans have for the Kim's, which makes me wonder which side he doesn't understand, fans of the monarchy or North Koreans. I felt the author lacked some knowledge about both global history and about North Korea, because his gaps about North Korea were glaring.
Another absurd thing the author said was that there were "nuclear power plant inspections" - North Korea has never at any point had a nuclear power plant, so he seemed to lack any basic knowledge of nuclear power as well to have made that mistake.
Appropriate as a first book, not too deep, and doesn't assume too much prior knowledge.
