Girl on the Couch: Life, Love, and Confessions of a Normal Neurotic
This book was abysmal. Thank the gods that I only paid $1.79 for it. Lorna Martin chronicles her year spent in therapy in this memoirs. However, she should have just titled this book Bridget Jones Goes to See a Shrink because that is precisely how Martin tried to come across and "sell" her story from within the pages of the memoir. The exception being that I adore Bridget Jones but Lorna Martin can take a flying leap.
Martin was so completely unlikeable. She was whiny, angsty, flaky, wallowing in self-pity, and bemoaning the horrible situations that befall her, which are entirely her fault. Martin was having an affair with a married man who was also cheating on her in addition to his wife. Boo hoo! You don't like that your married lover can't be trusted? MOVE ON THEN. Stop being such a spoiled bitch and get on with it.
The only thing more annoying that Martin and her lack of genuine issues were her sister and her BFF who were both shrinks. They were constantly psychoanalyzing her to the point that I wanted to reach into the book and punch them both in their smug faces!
This book was just terrible. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Learn from my mistake!
