"This book is a collection of essays by outstanding scholars of the present time. Its principal concern is to bring to the awareness of a wide reading public the riches of a particular form of the Christian theological tradition and its implications for the environmental concerns that plague us at the present time. The essays draw largely from a tradition inspired by the spirituality of St. Francis of Assisi and open to the reader a theological style developed by Franciscan theologians who drew important insights from that spirituality. Beginning with reflections on the significance of the biblical sources, the reader is then brought to a number of essays on St. Francis and St. Clare. From there the treatment moves to the work of outstanding medieval writers such as St. Bonaventure and John Duns Scotus. The final essays deal with the question of a form of practice focusing on peace, justice, and the integrity of creation."
—Zachary Hayes, O.F.M.
