Nevertheless, in 1957 Andre Thomkins put together in this way an intense book, a collection which shows drawing as a means of silent communication, as the artist's secret language. He turned to a woman, who was not only an artist, but also muse and friend to him. Their life together had inspired poetic expression in him. The fact of seeing a man behind bars on the cover is made relative by the exuberance of the other representations. It must therefore have been a rather pleasant "imprisonment", which he himself once compared to art: "Life and art are a game of patience, and marriage is an artistic problem posed by the aesthetics of life together".
His own echo of the stimulus passing between people who are close was generally for Thomkins a fundamental source of his oeuvre. Dialogue constituted the starting point for creative ideas. In addition, communication combined art, family and environment in a logical theme, on which he worked constantly from ever-changing aspects. The For Eva portfolio can thus represent the artistic foundation of a painter and draughtsman whose name was to be inextricably linked with the most important artists of the twentieth century.
