A historical exploration of events and daily life in Mexico City in both ancient and modern times.
Taking on the large task of exploring facets of everyday living in a particular civilization, the "Cities through Time" series organizes information in double-page chunks and moves chronologically through key historical periods. Details, unusual facts, and a minimum of dates and people keep the very readable text moving along. Boxed quotations from primary and secondary sources, well-captioned photographs of antiquities and historical figures, period art, etchings from prior eras, and Ray Webb's adequate but generic watercolor illustrations create a varied page design. No maps are included, but local or regional land features, major cities, and other geographical features are mentioned. As an overview, the series works well. The book has helpful organizational features such as a timeline and index, but report writers will have to dig a little as each page of text is set off by a single heading with no visual aides other than picture captions to convey information.
