Nice theoretical work. Kind of pointless and relatively useless to contemporary composers (i.e. hypermodernists, new complexity, avant-garde, serialist composers).

This is the go to book for most first year music programs. I have to admit I learned way more from gigging and listening to records, but this is still essential for anybody who wants to study music composition. You have to at least know what kind of music you don't want to write.
