After Cosmo's affection for the Moon causes it to leave its orbit and begin to follow him around, he must reassure the Moon that saying goodbye makes the hello even sweeter.
Cosmo loved the moon. He had moon pajamas and a moon nightlight. Moons were all over his room. When he went to bed at night he would talk to the moon and share all of his dreams and stories. When he would walk in the moonlight, Cosmos thought that the moon was following him. His parents told him it just seemed that way. His grandfather said it was because the moon was so big and so far away. Lately though, it was different. The moon was with him during recess and on his way home from school. Finally even the family noticed that the moon was out at the oddest times. One night three astronomers came to Cosmo's house to find out why, after millions of years, the moon had changed its ways. Cosmo asked the moon why it was following him. Well, Cosmo was a good kind person and the moon enjoyed his company. Then Cosmo explained to the moon that the tides depended on him, the morning glories never bloomed anymore and the dogs were making an awful racket. The moon agreed to go back to his old ways. Endearing pastel illustrations are expressive and memorable. 2003, Sleeping Bear Press, Ages 3 to 8.
