Ten essays offer new perspectives on the illustrations of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in editions printed from the 15th century through the 20th. The topics include woodcut illustrations in early printed books, the Ellesmere Manuscript, and William Blake's and Rockwell Kent's Canterbury Pilgrims. Victorian illustration is the subject of three chapters, including one devoted to William Morris's Kelmscott Chaucer. The contributors teach English in Canada, the UK, and the US; one is a freelance curator of American art. The volume is co-published with the British Library.
