Irreverent! That's why I love these poems. They grab the edges of things that aren't "polite " to talk about and shake them until the dust flies. The poems cavort from the "Ode to Languor, " in which the speaker eulogizes his father's lack of Eros for other women and his wife, to "The Physics of Heaven " and "The Physics of Hell " which respectively contain all your beloved dead pets (even the ones you didn't get around to naming) and the boy who lied that he was sick just so he wouldn't have to go to your 12th birthday party (plus all the pets that died due to your neglect). This is a hard book to put down! I could hardly wait to start laughing at--and agreeing with--the next scenario.
