The author of the popular resource. Creating Children's Sermons, continues his efforts to communicate the message of faith to the youngest members of the church. Believing that adult faith -- or lack of faith -- is directly linked to childhood experiences. Bucky Dann discusses the importance of reaching children with the word of God, and including them in the church's worship and sacraments. The lessons in the book are organized around fourteen themes that profoundly affect all human beings: Introductions and Separations; Peace; Love of Self and Others; The Nature of God; The Nature of Jesus; The Meaning of Christmas; The Meaning of Easter; Responsibilities to Parents; Discipleship; Worship; Marriage; Covenants; Baptism; Communion.
In each of the 54 lessons there is a statement about the theme, a Scripture reference, a teaching device, a statement of goals, and a brief description of technique. The lessons employ ideas and associations familiar to children. E.T., for example, is used to convey the idea of farewell; and a magnet demonstrates how God searches for those who are lost.

Better Children's Sermons: 54 Visual Lessons, Dialogues, and Demonstrations
This is probably the most helpful collection of Smith's essays. He provides an autobiographical intro charting his interests and research questions over the course of his career, and many of the treatment provided here are indicative of some of his major works. So, if you want to know how Smith understands his own argument in "To Take Place" or his obsession with the dictum "Map is not Territory," this is the place to start.
There is a lot of repetition in this collection; he occasionally uses the same few paragraphs at the same points in his argument... but overall the collected essays are helpful, coherent, and provide interesting forays into history of religions, comparative methodology, and Smith's own distinctive approach.
