The two views of Bentley:

"I love this school. It wasn't my first choice, but when I came here, I felt so comfortable and I loved the people. I am very happy I came here, and I wouldn't ever even think of transferring."

"I am not particularly fond of Bentley College. If you are looking for a large social scene with many diverse students, don't come here. The student body consists of primarily middle-to-upper-class white kids, and there is very little to do in order to entertain yourself on campus. I definitely wish that I would have visited more colleges before choosing Bentley because I wish I never came here."

What is it about Bentley that produces such polarized views from its students? The extreme and unique academic focus on business . . .

"Because of the strong emphasis on a complete real-world business education, all of Bentley's professors may not actually be professors at all. There is a large percentage of instructors who are retired businesspeople who have already made their life's fortune and now use teaching as a way to supplement their lifestyle. The teaching styles vary from having only a traditional midterm and final exam to writing journal entries every night to offering extra credit for watching The Apprentice."

the Waltham atmosphere . . .

"One word, 'suburbia.' At Bentley, you are only 10 miles or so away from Boston, but you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere due to its location in Waltham. From the period of January 19th until spring break, I left campus a totalof one time. If you are without a car, the campus makes you feel very isolated."

or the school's lack of diversity?

The issue of diversity on campus is divided amongst those who see it and those who don't. Mostly, students agree that it is more diverse than their high schools, but not as diverse as other local colleges. As a business school, it is important for Bentley to advertise the diverse student population, enticing prospective students to experience the rich culture of another country, but there is hardly any follow-through on that promise beyond first year studies.
