Animals of Africa Book

Maria Burzio, photographer, anthropologist and author, has spent many years traveling throughout Africa, documenting the natural and sociological features of this immense and majestically varied continent. His vision of Africa is not a romantic one, but is always very true to Africa's complex realities and contradictions. Even when ravaged by natural calamites, wars and diseases, Africa has maintained a very strong and rich relationship with the animal world, and it is through this world that Burzio has chosen to show us "his" Africa.

Burzio's camera has often focused on the animals of this magnificent continent, capturing with tenacity and precision both the peaceful moments of their daily lives and the intense struggles for survival of the creatures that dwell there. The photographs in this book are the result of patient waiting and, at times, great risk. Chapter by chapter, these images offer a sometimes profound, sometimes intimate glimpse into key aspects of animal existence: their individual and social behavior, their family and love lives, their fights for territory and their techniques of camouflage and defense. The resulting book is a spectacular portrait of the fauna of Africa, from the smallest and most delicate insect to the greatest of mighty predators.
