Among the Ginzburgs
What a truly beautiful book!
A rich, heartwarming look into the fabric that weaves human's together. Among The Ginzburgs delicately tells the story of five adult siblings and their spouses who are reluctantly brought together to say goodbye to their dying father; a man who abandoned them in childhood. I was enthralled by the way each of the characters navigated the minefield of emotions triggered by their father's abrupt reentry into their lives, his slow decline, and his subsequent passing. This thunderstorm of feelings is further complicated by the inherent complexities caused by birth order, age variations, memories and time apart as they pursue their adult lives.
Out of this turmoil of feelings emerges a beautiful snapshot of a family and a larger picture of the beauty, yet drama, of the human condition. The story line is so beautifully crafted. I was completely engaged throughout the entire book. The characters are richly brought to life through the author's brilliant dialogue, which is at times sensitively poignant and, at others, delightfully humorous and witty.
I strongly recommend that everyone read Among The Ginzburgs. It's one of those books that stays with you long after you've finished reading it.
