A Tortured People - The Politics of Colonization is a revised edition of the highly praised 1995 title from Metis author, activist, and professor, Howard Adams. The book is grounded in life experiences and the reality of the political struggle under colonization in half-breed and other Aboriginal and Native communities. A Tortured People provides a uniquely Aboriginal socio-political perspective on the effect of colonization on Aboriginal people while it also presents a fresh outlook on decolonization and Aboriginal life and culture. A Tortured People offers the reader an explanation of the deeply rooted issues behind the dramatic increase in Aboriginal militant action in recent years.

The revised edition has been completely rewritten by the author, as he re-considered some of his theories in the original 1995 publication and incorporated sonic of the events that have taken place since then. In addition, the author has added a section on the national question and the implications that the separation of the province of Quebec from Canada would have for Aboriginal people.
