From Bitter Lemon Press, a translation of an investigation set between the World Wars in Switzerland, France and Morocco. While I lost any keen interest about midway in the plot, because of its historic placement in the ranks of Simenon, Sayer and Chandler, I pressed on. Detectives in pursuit of truth is a classic genre, and Glauser, with his Sargent Studer mysteries is considered in that tier.

Reading the story from a historic viewpoint, early twentieth century life unfolds with details and conversation that I enjoyed. The social details of concern regarding dialect and accents we're my highlights. Of late, I've been on the lookout for translations of contemporary European mysteries that haven't achieved best-selling status, and this offering made my list.
