It was simply a little magic between siblings. What did it matter that each thought he or she was the better magician? They each had their own bag full of super-duper tricks that would entertain anyone except maybe their mother, who was tired of them trying to outdo each other. If only sister had zapped when she should have zipped, brother would not have ducked, and Mom would not have changed. Now the magic has turned into allout war and left their mother feeding on flies and darting into the dark and scary forest. How will these children rescue not only themselves but their mother? Can they unite and become a team? Will the show go on or will they have to cancel due to much croaking? Aubrey Wood's characters have genuine voice and showed us how to survive one of life's important lessons: There is on I in team. How enchanting that we are still not sure whether the sister turned her mom into a frog; or was that done with trick mirrors? The illustrations of the trip into the forest creat a gloomy and spooky place that help to build to a suspenseful climax and then ease the reader back into the kids' backyard. Of course the ending left everyone smiling even the rabbit.
