Stolen Away
The book Stolen Away by Christopher Dinsdale brought me into an immersive experience into the viking era time period. The main character Keira was originally sold to vikings as a slave but lived a good life with them. She wanted to get back home to Ireland and back to her original family so she goes on a voyage with other Vikings to try and get closer to home. Unfortunately the ship hits bad weather and Kiera is thrown off the ship and saved by some of the natives that lived in the area. The book then goes on with her relationship with the natives and her wanting to get home. This book really showed the different relations between certain tribes and villages with how they went to war against each other and how they helped each other. I think this was cool because its something History textbooks really cant explain well and you just need to be "put in the characters shoes." The most influential group in this book was the Beothuck people. They were the people that saved Kiera's life after she almost drowned and they welcomed her into their tradition and lives. They were very peaceful people but were not as advanced as Vikings as they didn't even have metal. These people were definitely my favorite group of people in the book. In the book the best theme or constant message was either sharing or accepting others. This is because the group of people we spend the most time with is the Beothuck and that is how they are. They are very caring and open to Kiera which is a complete stranger to them and that really conveyed the message of "sharing is caring." The reason my book is a 4 star and not 5 is because i disliked the ending of the book. I feel that the ending was a little weird as it seemed like the book was gonna end, and then it went on for another chapter doing very little and then ended very plainly. I think that a better ending would have been Kiera going back to her original family since that is what Kiera's ultimate goal was and still is. Overall the book was very good and i definitely recommend you to read it.
