The Orgasm Bible: The Latest Research and Techniques for Reaching More Powerful Climaxes More Often Book

Damn you Overdrive for tempting me into checking out this book, I can be such a sucker. I thought I might get some new and interesting insight into the big-O. Last year I read Breasts: A Natural and Unnatural History which was excellent, and inexplicably I thought this would be approached in a similar fashion, as medical journalism with some actual research cited, and maybe even some graphs or diagrams. I only have myself to blame, because if you look at that cover, you can easily predict what this book is like. The author is a journalist whose credits include Redbook, Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire and true to that form this book was like a 120 page Cosmo article. Actually, it was like 13 Cosmo articles, one for each chapter that followed a pattern like this:

The only thing missing were the damn quizzes. As far as content went, there generally wasn't anything you haven't already read in the lady mags. Of course, it never hurts to be reminded that you should be doing several hundred kegels a day. Yeah, me neither.

I did enjoy the photos. Like the cover of the book, many of them had a nice cheesy soft porn quality to them. There were lots of bare breasts and chests, but unfortunately no frontal. The photos featured the same couple throughout, posed to demonstrate the theme for the given chapter. And by demonstrate, I should say simulate, as no actual kissing, licking, blowing or penetration was shown. This clearly posed some challenges for the art director of the photo shoot.

Not all photos required actual sex. This one appears in a section about the importance of fitness to a good sex life. Sounds perfectly reasonable. It shows an attractive fit woman stretching with her partner gazing at her, he has a devilish grin. They are in a cozy setting in front of a fireplace, the room decorated in warm earth tones. So whose idea was it to put her in a brown camisole and panties and plant her on a purple yoga mat? Nothing says sexy stretching time like mud brown knickers.


This one is in the chapter called "His Private Time and Hot Spots". Great photo, right? I am assuming that the model had a "no monkey spanking" clause in his contact. Having to artfully show a guy masturbating without actually showing him masturbating is a challenge which is why I give the art director a pass for forgetting to show porn on the computer screen.


This author does have some techniques, most notably something called the Orgasm Loop. In fact, she has a whole book on the subject. It takes time and concentration and "focusing your energy" to your genitals. The author claims great success with this technique, just don't expect any objective studies backing up the claims.
