Personal Reaction:
This was an interesting book! I was not too familiar with the Anasazi Indians but I feel much more educated now. My favorite part of the books were the photographs. They show landscapes, pottery, and old structures.
Purpose:
This is a book that I would read aloud when studying Native Americans, especially Southwestern Indians. This is a long book with a lot of information so I would select passages to read aloud and show pictures of.
Independent Reading:
Like I mentioned above this is a long book with a lot of information so I would recommend it to students in third grade and up. This would be a great resource for students when doing research projects on Indians. It would also be a good book for students to read for enrichment or if they have interests in southwestern culture or Native Americans.
Nonfiction Conventions:
This book has bolded headings, so that keeps the information in the book organized and makes information very easy to navigate for the reader. The book has many pictures, often multiple for page to bring the book to life. The book also has an index in the back just in case you are looking for something specific.
