About the Author

After traveling around the world twice by the age of 24-from his native Louisiana to Jamaica, Australia, Papua New Guinea, the Marquesas, and Tahiti - Don Beach arrived in Hollywood, where he opened his first "Don the Beachcomber" bar in 1933. An immediate success, he soon moved his tropical-themed bar and restaurant to Hawaii, the perfect setting with its warm breezes, white sand beaches, and lovely wahine. With his incredible foresight and business savvy, Don the Beachcomber almost single-handedly transformed the hospitality industry in the Islands. His contributions to Hawaii include the originalInternational Market Place, the Lahaina Historic District, and the fun-loving ambience of the Polynesian-themed restaurant and bar - found throughout the Islands to this day.
