Flight and Flying Machines
This book's text references historical facts and contains plenty of vocabulary that small kids won't understand. It seems to be meant for adults, but nevertheless this is one that my son keeps coming back to. The building cutaways are very well done, and he finds them fascinating. I imagine that as he gets older he'll enjoy the richness of the historical detail, but already, as an elementary school kid, he's gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it.
