Joan Plummer Russell first became interested in K-9 police teams when she took part in a Citizens Police Academy. She rode with Corporal Mike Matsik and Aero twice a month for two years, writing notes and recording events. She also observed many K-9 training days and loved every minute of it. Ms. Russell and her husband live in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
Kris Turner Sinnenberg is a photojournalist whose work as a writer and photographer has appeared in many publications. While at ABC News Network she produced news reports for Good Morning America and World News Tonight. A trip to Africa on safari inspired her interest in photography. While working on this book, she joined the Citizens Police Academy. Ms. Sinnenberg lives in Ohio with her family.

Among the many heroes emerging within our society of late, we are beginning to learn more about the intelligence and acute senses of man's best friend. Aero and Mike as a team work toward noble ends in rescue work and in protecting society. This book explains to children, and their parents, the important role and value to society afforded by the astonishing sensibilities of incredibly gifted creatures like Aero and skilled, dedicated and heroic police officers like Mike. I highly recommend this beautifully written book at a time when, more than ever, our children need to feel that our society is deeply committed to their safety.
