"Once upon a maritime..." begins this clever tale. What? A fish wearing a hat? Here's the comical story about a little red snapper who dons her red hood and sets out for her grandmother's home with a fresh-baked octopi. Meanwhile, the opportunistic wolf eel is busy kicking Grandma out of her clam bed and tucking himself in. Yes, it's a comical twist on a classic, set under the sea, and with an amiable turn from the traditional ending. Illustrated with richly colored linocuts by notable Alaskan artist, Evon Zerbetz, LITTLE RED SNAPPERHOOD is told in whimsical verse that tickles adults and children alike. You'll never think about the "big, bad wolf" in the same way! Look for the bonus material at the end of the story, too: a paper doll of Little Red Snapperhood, along with several of her hats, all ready for coloring.

Pat Williams <%ISBN%>1558686835 - Children's Literature

This is a rhyming adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood. In this version, a little fish meets a wolf eel while taking her grandmother a baked octopus. The story follows a familiar pattern. When the story ends, grandmother, wolf eel, and Little Red Snapperhood enjoy a feast of the octopi and their new friendships. Bold linocut illustrations add to the drama of this underwater fishy tale. While the moral of the story, "both ignorance and loathing can make us gear potential friends disguised in wolf-eel clothing," the wolf grabs her by the hood and ignores her pleas when she is afraid she is going to die. This is not a good beginning for a friendship. It does, however, give a good starting point for a discussion. The book would be a good one to use for studying comparison and contrast to other versions, vocabulary study, and discussion of the above-mentioned issue. 2003, WestWinds Press/Graphic Arts Center Publishing Company,
