Good Intentions: Pledges of Aid for Postconflict Recovery Book

Fascinating look at the way the SED appropriated money/monetary policy as an attempt to move their socialist politics forward, leading ultimately (and somewhat paradoxically) to the union of the two Germanys. I had no idea how often Honecker made concessions that were in direct contradiction to the Marxist-Leninist socialism of the SED in order to get hard currency from the FRG. Very strange. Also, just, everything was ... surprising. Some chapters were stronger than others, and I particularly liked the epilogue.
