Looking Closely Through the Forest Book

Looking closely through the forest is a picture book that shows a segment of a picture and asks you to guess what it is. There are suggestions of what the picture is and when you turn the page it is a glimpse of the forest. Each picture has facts about the the items shown, where is comes from and the name of the objects. All the pictures in this book are things that are found in the forest. I think this is a brilliant book because of the pictures and facts that are given about the items, It is very informational and the subjects aren't from any ordinary forest. When the Author asks the reader what the clip of the picture could be the reader has to think and guess what the picture is, it is a good book and captures the attention of the reader until the end of the book.

The style of the book is one that has the reader participating and guessing what is going to be on the next page. Once the picture is revealed information is being given to the reader, I feel like the author is creating a conversation with the reader when asking questions about the picture. The tone is a playful one because it feels like a guessing game when you try to figure out what the picture is. It is also informational in a tricky way you are learning about elements of the forest when looking at a picture of a tree or a plant.

Of course the visual elements of the book are very captivating there is not much else visually to the book. There are no illustrations or drawings or in fact any colors on the pages, there is really no need for them. The large text on the pages are solid and black it is curved in shape which adds to the text. The pictures in the book spread across one and a half pages all the way into the gutter and onto the next page. The written text is on the left side of the page and does not have a text box, it is set upon the plain white page. The title looking closely through the forest is very creative because the reader is looking through the lens just as the photographer does when he is capturing the photos.
