In doing some family history, I discovered that I have quite a few ancestors who served in and lived through the Civil War. Although both sides of the conflict are represented in my family, the majority were Confederates from North and South Carolina. So I thought I'd learn more about what they might have experienced.
[10 Oct] Ok, so I gave up. I wasn't even planning to read the whole thing, since I didn't really care about any of the women who had their own chapters. I did plan to finish the last chapter that covered the "everywoman" aspect of the Civil War. It was interesting to learn that the Civil War was a "woman's war" in that women were among the strongest proponents for secession and had great influence in encouraging their men to enlist.
I'll probably come back to this at some point, probably when I get back into family history more seriously.
