Max and the Adoption Day Party Book

I give this contemporary realistic fiction book a 3 star rating. This book is intended for level A readers ages 6 and up. I chose to read this book because having a child in a classroom 7 out of 10 children may be adopted. Adoption is something that occurs in the world today. This book is about a boy name Jose who is best friends with another boy named Max in which Jose invites him to his adoption day party, the day he was adopted. The book is full of bright colors, and lots of smiling faces to portray adoption as a happy, exciting, good thing. But it actually lacks the in depth information about adoption. It would be better if the children were given more information on the adoption and the process. But maybe that is not where the author was trying to go with his story. All in all it is a decent book and I would read this to my students.
