Booknews

Volume 6 of the eight-volume Yale edition of the collected letters chronicles the period following the death of Stevenson's father, and finds the author visiting America for the second time, followed by travels to the South Pacific, Hawaii, and back to the South Pacific, where he determined to spend the rest of his life. The volume ends with Stevenson and his family preparing to leave Australia for the estate he had bought in Samoa. Ernest Mehew's commentary provides background information and annotation.
