Published in 1827, Loudon's novel is one of the earliest pieces of women's science fiction. Set in 22nd century England, the story features a society that, although technologically quite advanced, is morally bankrupt. It falls to an Egyptian mummy, reanimated by scientists, to lead the country back to order.
