Cartoonist Elaine Ina Hindin has come up with a novel way to combine lighthearted fortunetelling with the ever-popular one-panel strip cartoon. How do these "cartoon oracles" work? You think of a question, open the book to a random page, and read the cartoon printed there for the answer. As inventive as this method is, I prefer to read Fortune Kookies straight through. Each page offers a Zen-like statement complemented by a drawing of two cartoon fortune cookie characters. As Steve Greenberg from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer said, "Fortune Kookies ... may or may not foretell the future, but [it] just might help you live your life."
