Legacy of Silence Book

Raised by a tyrannical father and an emotionally cold mother, Rebecca and Susanna each know she wants a more harmonious way of life, but can't agree on the values of their separate existences. Susanna, the elder sister, has children who have moved away and lives alone in a house full of cats. She believes she must obliterate all traces of her Jewish origins in order to fulfill her dream of becoming an American, even though she is dating a rabbi. Rebecca is divorced and find fulfillment teaching Slavic languages and being an interpreter. The plight of immigrants in a new country, is a backdrop to the sister's lives as they forge different paths and engage each other in their love-resentment relationship.

Irene Pastor was born to a Jewish family in Poland during World War II. She attended UC Berkeley and lives in the Bay Area.
