I read this early before I'd 'formalized' my rating/element system, but I thought this just above average, so my rating is 3.2.
The title story, "Honest Money" has it all: an entire Perry Mason novel (but with Ken Corning and Miss Vail) playing earlier characters who turn out to be the Mason folks. Here, there is murder, bribes, switched wallets, dirty politics, arrest, an illegal speakeasy, and more. And the clever way a wife hides her husband in plain sight is one of the best tricks I've come across in noir/pulp crime. Gardner's shorts are not to be missed if you want a taste of him, head to toe. Or maybe you just want a look, that's fine too!
