The Lumberman's Frontier: Three Centuries of Land Use, Society, and Change in America's Forests
The book lives up to its sub-title in thoroughness,
pulling together an amazing amount of information and
organizing it in accessible form. Many different people
will skim it for different reasons, as I did to learn
more about parts of the country I know and parts of
the wood "industry" of special interest to me. Well-
chosen excerpts from old letters and diaries jump out
at the reader often enough to lure her to read on.
