The United States Supreme Court Book

History marches on, so one would expect it to be impossible for reference works on the Supreme Court to be completely up-to-date. However, the editors of this collection of academic and journalistic articles have managed to keep up with the cadence. Along with a timely selection of newspaper articles on the recent changes in the court's personnel, the editors provide various opinions on the background on the court as an institution over time (including a very interesting article by Rehnquist on the court in the nineteenth century), landmark decisions, including an article on whether landmark decisions are all that important, current issues in the docket, such as gay rights and race as a factor in admissions, and the complexities of the Rehnquist court and its legacy.
