Beyond Blame
I "read" the audiobook, rather than a physical copy of this book, because I drive so much and have gotten back into audiobooks. The author narrates her own book and GOOD LORD IS HER VOICE ANNOYING. So, if you're considering the audiobook, maybe go for the actual book instead, if you're that invested in reading it. Gah, I couldn't even stand her voice. It made it a pain to get through the book.
But as far as substance goes ... this was totally underwhelming. Most of the tips are super common sense, and she glosses over them anyway. Some of her advice is super cheesy, like the awful "compliments" or "comebacks" she includes. I was listening to that and just trying not to snort with disgust. Who in their right mind would ever use those stupid lines? Guh. I couldn't even.
In addition to the "tips" or whatever, there is a lengthy section on her own depression and suicidal tendencies in the past. Now, I am not trying to be insensitive. I've basically been where she was. It's not fun. But was this the right book to go off and talk about all of that in depth? No. Save it for your memoir or something. It felt really out of place and disjointed and almost bizarre, the way it was included in this book.
Anyway, all in all, don't bother with this book.
