INDONESIAN-ENG D & PHR Book

I would buy this for the culinary dictionary alone.
it was very helpful as i ate my way through different regions of java and bali.

the other parts of the phrasebook were also somewhat useful, though it may have been more helpful for me personally to have a phrasebook for javanese (and maybe balinese). there is a section for local dialects which has some useful phrases, but any more depth on local languages is beyond the scope of this small pocket phrasebook. i found that people communicating intraregionally will use a blend of bahasa indonesia and the local dialect, more often the local dialect than indonesian words. when communicating interregionally, they revert to bahasa indonesia. makes this phrasebook less helpful when trying to comprehend intraregional dialogue, but useful if you're just trying to get across simple phrase.
