The 19 essays represent nearly all the criticism that Coleman (1936-2003) wrote for the periodical between 1994 and 2002. He was a specialist in Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American literature, but also very knowledgeable about music. Among the topics are Fantastic Argentine, Toscanini in His Letters, Orpheus in Hell, and Life in Basqueland. Kimbell is the managing editor of The New Criterion. There is no index or bibliography.
