Duck's day at the beach comes in the form of a padded cloth book with a sturdy zipper, a handle, and a flap. When closed tight, the book is transformed into a small carrying case. When toddlers lift the flap, they see the sun shining down on the duck as he plays in the sand. Unzip the case, open the pages, and kids will discover Duck's summer cottage, a tiny detachable beach bag, and a cloth trunk holding beach playthings. Outside on the beach they'll find a souvenir standand every scene includes padded cloth beach items attached to pages with Velcro tabs, or moved from one page to the next as Duck enjoys his day at the beach.
A pair of cloth books from Barron's boasts interactive elements. The wordless My Baby Goodnight by Kenny Rettore, illus. by Olivia Lyly, stars a baby in a red-and-white striped playsuit, attached by a string, who can tuck into a pocket on the cover (where a miniature cloth book also resides), or a bed or closet on the interior spread. At the Beach by Danna Swartz, illus. by Francesca Ferri, with two to three sentences per page, provides youngsters with a beach bag in which they can stow toys from a Velcro-sealed chest, a towel and cap from a bureau and more. Adults will have to keep track of the small elements attached by Velcro (bottle, clothes, etc.); both come in a transparent plastic satchel. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
