They love to toot the horn, zoom up in the air, and race down the hill. Whee! But best of all, the Bugs like to bump and bash, jump and splosh! Jessica Spanyol's lively illustrations, abuzz with action words and nonstop movement, are sure to entice little drivers to jump right in and come for the ride.

Children's Literature

Somehow, this appears to look like an amateurishly drawn book intended to satisfy the author's children only. Each double-page spread depicts bugs in various modes of transportation—cars, trains, and planes—along with observations about each activity, though there really is no thought to the work. Unfortunately, it will barely hold the interest of anyone over two years old. It is hard to believe Candlewick Press and their usual exceptional offerings have published something of this caliber. Perhaps on a positive note, young readers may feel inspired to create their own bug book that will describe various activities, utilizing vehicles or not, and try to weave them into some semblance of a theme. The text is simplistic—one sentence and expression per vehicle. Adults and children can take turns reading each piece or act them out. Not much of an effort on Spanyol's part, but kids who love bugs and/or vehicles just might be satisfied for a few minutes.
