If you're wondering if you'll like this book, you can always check out dearoldlove.com and read the THOUSANDS of awesome entries there for free. And then go out and buy the book anyway because 1) he's picked some of the best ones for the book, and 2) the graphic design for the book is fantastic, it's one of those ones you pick up in the store and you're all "I like this. I WANT this. I want to put it in my pocket and carry it around with me all the time.."
Basically it's very short notes sent to the website from ordinary people, Selsberg may edit a word or two at most. They're meant to be letters to exes, crushes, never-weres, and any one who ever held on to a huge chunk of your heart. Sometimes they're apologetic, or sweet, or spiteful, but they're all memorable. A few examples from the book:
"Yes we had good sex. I have good sex with everyone. That's me."
"Because your father vowed to do everything in his power to break us up, and he did, I enrolled him in NAMBLA and flooded his mailbox with hairpiece catalogs and coupons for adult diapers."
"My love for you is like a mummy - carefully preserved with the brains yanked out."
"Found your secret blog. It's so boring!"
"How were you against holding hands? That's like hating springtime, or being anti-kitten."
"After you left all the plants were so distraught they committed suicide."
