In a career that spanned two and a half decades, Bob Kenedy was present when history was being made. As a newly-enlisted sailor, he served on ships that transported President Franklin D. Roosevelt to meetings with South American and Canadian leaders. During World War II he fought in some of the most important—and bloody—battles in the South Pacific. During the Cold War he worked for Naval intelligence and security, safeguarding national secrets. He also assisted top German scientists to emigrate to the United States. The Korean War found him back at sea—and back in battle—again. Through his memoirs, we can experience these events firsthand.

Author Biography: After spending two years at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, Richard Lewis Kenedy left and joined the Navy in 1927—without informing his family. As a result, they had "wanted" pictures circulating the country until he finally called and told them what he had done.He served in the Navy for 30 years, and retired in 1957 as a captain. He fought in World War II in the Philippines and received a Bronze Star for his service at the bombing of Cavite Navy Shipyard in the Philippines. After retiring, Bob worked for the Washington State Employment Department where he was put in charge of Farm Labor, a return to his roots. He was active in the Retired Officer's Association and the Washington State Retired Workers Association. Bob died in 1998, when he was 92, having lived a full and happy life. He is missed by everyone who knew him.
