Cincinnati's Golden Age, Ohio (Images of America Series) Book

There's lots of photos in this book including a number of photos of boats on the Miami & Erie canal. (Now gone, of course. Part was torn up to become a subway which was never finished and ended up being paved over to become just another street.)

Music Hall is discussed as are the inclines, steep tracks that would life horse carriages and then trolley cars up the steep incline. These ended being torn up after road building enabled the growing automobile population to get places easier.

There were a lot of railroads sort of loose throughout the city. These were eventually united and the Cincinnati Union Terminal was built. After the train traffic basically stopped the place was converted into museums.

The Courthouse Riot of 1884 is covered which managed to burn down the courthouse. Carew Tower is another topic of the book. At one time it was an amazing place, filled with stores and a really neat type of architecture. Time passed, stores failed, the tower had structural issues and a good portion of it was torn down and turned into a parking garage.

Other things are discussed and the book proves to be an interesting look into a past now largely gone.
