John Hume(a Lecturer in Economic History at Strathclyde University) and Michael Moss (Archivist at the University of Glasgow)have written the text and commentaries which accompanies the photographs. The shipyards covered are Barclay Curle, John Brown, Charles Connell, William Denny, Fairfield, A & J Inglis, Lithgows, Robert Napier, Scotts, William Simon, Alexander Stephen & Yarrow. Various famous vessels including The City of Paris, City of New York, Friesland, Campania, Glen Sannox, Lusitania, Acquitania, HMS Indomitable, HMS Ramillies of course HMS Hood are seen in various stages of their building.
