It's a splendid autumn afternoon at Buttercup Cottage. Little Red and her friends are on their way to the Great Harvest Festival in Bluebell Wood. It's great fun kicking up the golden leaves and leaf-boarding down the hill - even Roany the Pony finds a leaf big enough for him!

Just then, Little Red sees two tiny mice who have lost their mommy, so she shrinks down to their size and offers to lend a hand. But what's this? Now that Little Red's small, she can't reach her sack of smiles! How will she help them now? Luckily, Little Blue comes to the rescue! Mommy Mouse is reunited with her children and everyone has a splendiferous time at the festival!

Publishers Weekly

Ferguson's rag doll-like heroine and her companions-a gloomy pink pony, a spotted puppy named Gino and (also doll-like) Little Blue-are on their way to the Great Harvest Festival when Little Red meets two mice who have lost their mother. Because she is "so big... and scary" to the mice, Little Red uses her magic dust to shrink herself to their size, leaving her "sack of smiles" hanging from a branch. Williams's muted autumn palette brightens considerably when a squirrel snatches the sack, the magic dust causing the forest to turn a rainbow of colors. The familiar characters and whimsical fantasy elements lend the story a Winnie the Pooh-style charm. Ages 3-6. (Aug.)
