The Biggest Boy
The Biggest Boy is one of only a few picture books that were written but not illustrated by Kevin Henkes. Nancy Tafuri does a good job with the pictures in this story, but Kevin Henkes is such an amazingly skilled artist that I always kind of miss his pictures when they aren't included in the work.
The Biggest Boy shows the imaginings of a boy as to how he will grow up, not from the average perspective but from the mind of a boy who wants to do it all bigger, and better, a boy who wants to be the biggest boy in the world. It's a nice story, with a little bit of that unnameable Kevin Henkes magic that seems to be ingrained in everything that he writes, whether short or long. I would give one and a half stars to The Biggest Boy.
