"With a skillful blend of humor and compassion, (Ann Weems) advises shalom-seekers to re-prioritize, listen to and communicate with one another and with God".........The Disciple
This collection of poems, skits, monologs, and liturgies by the author of Family Faith Stories (Westminster/John Knox, 1985) is intended to help direct the search for joy inherent in the Christian lifestyle. Despite Weems's efforts, the openly inspirational writings tend to be somewhat flat, but those which lament and enumerate our failures are truly eye-opening without being depressing. Her most creative and inspiring pieces are those which detail the faults of the church and Christian society. Weems's theology is moderate, though those who confuse medium with message will find it rather leftist. Her poems are short and easy to follow, while a few of her skits and monologs are screamingly funny. Most are long and thoughtful enough to replace the traditional sermon. This collection is an excellent resource for church leaders and for those who enjoy inspirational writings. Recommended for church and seminary libraries.-- Kenneth M. Locke, Allentown, Pa.
